I am happily retired after teaching for Racine Unified schools for 40 years in both elementary and middle schools. My husband and I have four adult children and four grandchildren from our combined families. My hobbies and interests include scrapbooking and other paper crafting, gardening, cooking, walks in the woods, reading, and spending time with my grandkids. When I am not doing one of those things, you would find me doing volunteer work at St. Richard Parish. I have been involved with the Our Harmony Club at the St. Richard site since 2017. I volunteer twice a month. As a part of each of my days here I bring in a craft activity once a month and my sister and I prepare lunch once a month.
After retirement, I was looking for a place to use my talents to serve others. Since my parish, St. Richard, is one of the host sites for Our Harmony Club, I decided to start there. What a gem I found! Being able to experience the smiles and joy that come from some of the simplest things we do with our guests during the day; making crafts, singing, and exercising, playing bocce ball with foam balls, bean bag toss, or dancing/singing with the afternoon entertainers, fills my heart! I am also here because I realize how much family care givers need this day for themselves knowing their loved ones are cared for and are having an enjoyable day. One day on my way in, I was wearing a t-shirt that said, “Make Someone Smile Today.” One of the family care givers who was on her way back to her car looked at me and said, “You just did!” That really told me why I belong here working with this wonderful group.
Looking for a wonderful day? Come to Our Harmony Club!
Our Staff
Cheryl McCrary, Public Relations Director
We welcome Cheryl McCrary as she has joined the Our Harmony Club family. With over 20 years in public relations, her primary desire is to uphold the mission for Our Harmony Club, “We care for and about each other by supporting caregivers and those they are caring for. We are volunteer based and promote and enhance the quality of life for all.”
As an ambassador, Cheryl’s passion is to help promote OHC along with networking to build strategic relationships to partner with key agencies, vendors, churches, health facilities, senior community organizations and more. To help enhance the presence and build a higher visual presence for the brand, she continues to implement various creative advertising skills, PR strategies as well as social media platforms. With the help of brochures, flyers and business cards, this valuable information can help engage with caregivers in our community, whose loved ones may need respite, which in turn can enhance new recruitment of volunteers and families. Other wonderful opportunities include assisting with fundraising events, as well as field interviews through TV and radio. As a CD recording vocalist, she also enjoys performing and engaging with our guests at various OHC events, while integrating “musical memories and trivia.”
